Lopetegui apparently succeeds Moyes at West Ham

Julen Lopetegui is about to sign as the new head coach of West Ham United. David Moyes would then have to vacate his position after four and a half years. A German is heavily involved in this decision

After four and a half years, David Moyes’ time on the West Ham United coaching bench is apparently coming to an end. According to several international media outlets, the Hammers have reached an agreement with Julen Lopetegui to work together from July 1.

The 57-year-old Spaniard had resigned from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2023, just before the start of the season. The main reason for this was probably differences of opinion regarding Wolves’ behavior on the transfer market

“Pearl diver” Steidten opted for Lopetegui

Lopetegui was also briefly linked with FC Bayern’s coaching search, but is now expected to join the current ninth-placed team in the Premier League. Tim Steidten, the German technical director who was considered a “pearl diver” at Bayer 04 Leverkusen until March 2023 and moved to London for the current season, is responsible for the Hammers’ personnel decision.

Ruben Amorim, master coach of Sporting Lisbon, had also recently held talks with West Ham.
