As far as managerial stints go, Kenny Miller’s role as Livingston’s player-manager was not very long – just seven weeks in fact. After just two Scottish Premiership matches (a 3-1 loss to Celtic and 0-0 draw with Kilmarnock) followed by a defeat to Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup, Miller was sacked by Livingston.
Miller wanted to continue playing
Miller had been asked by senior figures at the club to concentrate on the managerial aspect of his job but he was reluctant to give up playing. Miller was appointed in June and was keen to take his first steps into management with a top-level club that had recently been promoted to the Scottish Premiership.
Miller in bust-ups with managers at Rangers
Miller had three spells at Rangers but his latest spell last season finished under a cloud after he clashed firstly with Pedro Caixinha and then his replacement Graeme Murty. After the 4-0 loss to Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final, Miller and his teammate Lee Wallace were suspended after an altercation with their manager. He did not appear for the club again, leaving when his contract ended and then taking up the player-manager role at Livingston.
Miller has played football all over the world
He believes he still has a lot to give as a player so will now pursue his playing opportunities. Miller is a well-travelled footballer who has played in the MLS for Vancouver Whitecaps, in Turkey with Bursaspor as well as numerous Scottish and English clubs. It is unclear yet where the next and maybe last stop on his playing career will be but he is never too far from controversy so it could be a big surprise.
