Michael Edwards is to become the new head of soccer at Fenway Sports Group (FSG). The Liverpool FC ownership organization announced the return of the former Reds sporting director on Tuesday
In the summer, Edwards will take up his position as FSG’s head of soccer, replacing Mike Gordon. As “CEO of Football”, Edwards will be responsible for “identifying and recruiting new leaders for Liverpool FC’s soccer department”, among other things, according to the press release.
Edwards was Sports Director at Liverpool FC, which is part of FSG, until 2022. Among other things, the 44-year-old was responsible for the transfers of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
Jürgen Klopp also brought Edwards to Liverpool in 2015. The club must find a successor for the outgoing team manager in the coming months. Chelsea FC and Manchester United were also interested in signing Edwards.
