Liverpool – NK Maribor 3-0In the first company on Anfield, no goal fell, unlike all other fields in the Champions League. Liverpool dominated the competition, while Maribor was well positioned and had little defensive direction. With each player of the visitors behind the ball and by giving away little space, frustration on the faces of the Liverpudlians and the supporters could be seen. Domper on the first half was the loss of Georginio Wijnaldum, after seventeen minutes of playing because of an ankle injury. He was replaced by James Milner.
Three minutes after rest Liverpol broke the ban. After a cross by Trent Alexander-Arnold from the right, Mohamed Salah touched the ball just enough: 1-0. A few minutes later Miner could have taken care of the 2-0 from eleven metres, after a violation of Roberto Firmino. However, Jasmin Handanovic tapped the elephant gauge staircase on the pole. In the 64th minute, home fans could still cheer. After a quick one-two with Milner, Emre Can worked the liberating 2-0 inside. In the rest of the match Maribor’s players made a tired impression and Daniel Sturridge, Salah’s replacement, was able to take care of the 3-0.
Seville – Spartak Moscow 2-1The team of Eduardo Berizzo wanted to retaliate for the 5-1 defeat in Moscow and that was initially clearly revealed in the first half. After 27 minutes, Clément Lenglet headed the deserved 1-0 against the ropes, after preparatory work by Steven N’ Zonzi. After the opening hit, however, the game changed: Spartak, with Promes in the base, had more ball possession, created danger and forced Seville to defend football. The resting signal came very well located for the southern Spanish people.
In the first quarter of an hour after rest Spartak made a nervous impression and Seville searched for the 2-0. The team of Berizzo doubled the advantageous margin after an hour of playing: Ever Banega had more space after a pair of scissors and he shot the ball in the crossroads. Seville was then close to the 3-0, but a rapid counterattack by Spartak resulted in a hit of Zé Luis in the 78th minute. He reacted attentively to a half-saving response from Sergio Rico to a deployment by Denis Glushakov. Spartak was unable to do anything else.
