Liverpool cash in big time: Spurs dig deep into their pockets for Solanke

AFC Bournemouth are losing their top goalscorer, but can look forward to a warm shower of money from their rivals: Tottenham Hotspur will pay €64.2 million to sign Dominic Solanke (26). Liverpool cash in heavily on the deal

After a summer’s delay, Tottenham Hotspur have found a legitimate successor to Harry Kane, who left for FC Bayern. In doing so, the club is reinvesting a large part of the 100 million euros that the club’s record goalscorer brought to Spurs. Dominic Solanke was released by league rivals Bournemouth for a base fee of €64.2 million, which could rise to €75 million including bonuses. The Cherries are delighted with a new record transfer fee.

Liverpool FC are also keeping their purse strings tight. The Reds signed Solanke on a free transfer (!) from Chelsea FC in the summer of 2017 – and passed him on to Bournemouth for just over €20 million in January 2019. The Reds are said to have secured a 20% sell-on fee, which would now mean a further tranche of just under €13 million

Even so, Bournemouth have enough financial leeway to strengthen the squad. Solanke, meanwhile, has signed a six-year contract in North London until June 30, 2030, with the goalscorer having aroused particular interest last season. 13 scoring points (six goals, seven assists in 33 appearances) in the 2022/23 Premier League season were followed by 22 (19 goals, three assists) in the previous season. To date, his CV includes 134 appearances with 29 goals in England’s top flight.

Postecoglou renewed his wish in Japan

On the preparation tour through Japan, Spurs coach Ange Postecoglou openly addressed the need in the center of attack. “That’s still the area where we’re thinnest when I talk about our squad, so obviously that’s a focus for us,” the Australian made clear.

Richarlison (28 appearances, eleven goals), Brennan Johnson (32 appearances, five goals) and Timo Werner (13 appearances, two goals) were unable to replace Kane in pre-season. Instead, Heung-Min Son, not a natural center forward, had the best scoring rate in the league with 17 goals from 35 games
