Ligament strain: Curry must take a break

The Golden State Warriors are playing a great season so far. But now the Dubs will probably have to do without Steph Curry until the play-offs.

Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has suffered a sprained ligament in his left foot, according to converging media reports, and could be out until the NBA playoffs begin. The championship round begins in mid-April.

Curry, who suffered the injury in Wednesday’s (local time) game against the Boston Celtics (88-110), is expected to undergo further examination. X-rays reportedly showed no fractures or other structural damage.

Celtics pro Marcus Smart had landed on Curry’s foot while fighting for the ball in a trap. A “dangerous move,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr criticised. “Steve and I know each other from the US national team. He knows I would never try to hurt anybody,” Smart said, “I hope Steph is OK.”

Eight-time All-Star Curry, 34, has won the NBA title three times with Kerr and the Warriors. The San Francisco team is currently third in the West.
