In the midst of the relegation battle, FC Augsburg is threatened by personnel problems. In Bielefeld, the recently recovered Felix Uduokhai had to go off early – the worry lines are getting bigger.
Just under half an hour had passed on the Alm when Felix Uduokhai and Patrick Wimmer had an unfortunate collision. Both players were laid up and needed medical attention – but only one of them was able to continue playing.
While Wimmer continued, Uduokhai, who had also twisted his ankle in addition to the collision, had to be substituted early on. Coach Markus Weinzierl brought on Frederik Winther – and should now hope that Uduokhai has not injured himself too badly, especially as he could certainly use the defender in the relegation battle.
“The ankle immediately became thick. It looks like a ligament injury,” Weinzierl told DAZN after the final whistle, adding, “I hope it’s just a ligament, then it will get better faster, but we’ll see in the next few days.”
The 24-year-old has been slowed down recently by a complicated torn tendon in his thigh and also COVID-19 just before Christmas. From Matchday 4 to Matchday 17 inclusive, Uduokhai did not appear on the pitch for a single minute, but he has recently returned and, among other things, helped FCA to snatch a point from the big BVB in the 1-1 draw against Dortmund the previous week.
