Leverkusen avert partial spectator exclusion

Bayer Leverkusen has averted a partial spectator exclusion in the Europa League for the time being.

Bayer Leverkusen can theoretically fill their entire stadium in the first Europa League home game of the new season. The Bundesliga club has averted a partial spectator exclusion imposed by UEFA for the time being. The exclusion of 5000 fans was instead suspended for two years, the association announced.

The punishment had been imposed by the disciplinary committee of the European federation after incidents in the semi-final second leg against AS Roma. At the time, pyrotechnics were set off in the area of the Werkself fans and objects were thrown onto the pitch. The match had to be interrupted for two minutes. In addition to the partial exclusion, the club also had to pay a fine of 30,000 euros, as well as further fines for other offences.

The match had ended 0:0, Leverkusen had thus missed out on a place in the Europa League final.
