Lennox Lehmann: What path the German talent would like to take

The German motorbike talent considers a direct move into the MotoGP paddock to be unrealistic: Lennox Lehmann sees the Supersport World Championship as a springboard

With his strong rallies, Lennox Lehmann attracted attention in the races of the 2022 Supersport 300 World Championship season so far. At the season opener in Aragon, the German stormed onto the podium twice from 25th place on the grid. And Lehmann also showed two strong races in Assen. We asked the German youngster what his plans are for the future.

“It’s my third year with the Supersport 300 bike,” reports Lehmann, who won the IDM in 2020 and 2021 and is racing in the World Championship this year. But he’s been riding the KTM RC390 for a while: “Before the IDM I rode a similar bike in the Junior Cup, only without the kit electronics and without the racing kit.”

Where might he go in 2023 if he continues to perform so strongly? “Moto3 is rather unlikely,” notes the Freudenberg rider. “Sure, the MotoGP paddock is a dream because it is much better known. That would be mega. But the Supersport World Championship is the more realistic path. “

“If you are fast there and attract attention, then you can make the jump to Moto2,” explains the 16-year-old from Dresden and points to a rider in the VR46 junior team: “Manuel Gonzales made the switch. He showed a strong season last year and is now not bad in Moto2 either. “

“That is the more realistic way if you want to make it into Moto2,” Lehmann is convinced. Size is not yet causing the Saxon teenager any problems. “Most of the other riders are smaller than me. But it’s still possible. It doesn’t look like I’m going to grow much more. In the past two years, my size has only changed slightly,” says the current fourth-placed rider in the Supersport 300 World Championship.
