RB Leipzig can play their Europa League play-off match against Real Sociedad on Thursday in front of almost 25,000 spectators.
The health department of the city of Leipzig granted permission on Monday to expand the stadium capacity to 50 per cent. In concrete terms, this means that the Saxons will be allowed to admit 24,758 spectators for Thursday s home match against the sixth-placed team in Spain’s La Liga.
The decision to increase the crowd was taken last Saturday after the authorities had evaluated the findings from the previous home match against Cologne (3:1).
A decisive yardstick in assessing the situation was the current load levels in normal and intensive care units in hospitals in connection with the coronavirus.
Almost all of the 21,829 season ticket holders – adjusted regulations apply in the standing-room area due to the reduced capacities – can thus use their usual seat in the Red Bull Arena.
