Leipzig resume training – Will Kurth deputise for Marsch against Union?

Because the rapid tests were also negative after the PCR tests, RB Leipzig can probably take on Union Berlin on Friday as planned – probably with the next coach on the sidelines.

The Bundesliga match between 1. FC Union Berlin and RB Leipzig this Friday  can in all likelihood go ahead as planned. After the PCR tests carried out on the Leipzig players on Tuesday did not reveal any further positive corona results on Wednesday morning, the rapid tests carried out on Wednesday lunchtime were also all negative. Thus, the current eighth-placed team in the Bundesliga was able to resume training in the early afternoon after the session scheduled for Tuesday had been cancelled.

Head coach Jesse Marsch, who is ill with Corona, was still absent after Wednesday, however, as were players Willi Orban, Yussuf Poulsen and Hugo Novoa, who are also in quarantine. Since co-coach Achim Beierlorzer was also among the four members of the staff who tested positive on Tuesday  confirmed corresponding media reports – and is currently in domestic isolation, second assistant coach Marco Kurth led Wednesday’s unit. The 43-year-old former second division professional (VfB Leipzig, Erzgebirge Aue, Energie Cottbus) is also expected to coach the team at the Alte Försterei.

Gulacsi and Simakan are also training again

Peter Gulacsi and Mohamed Simakan were also back on the training pitch on Wednesday. The regular Leipzig keeper and the centre-back, who had been absent recently due to a COVID-19 illness, were able to “test the waters” and completed an individual session. It is questionable whether Gulacsi and Simakan can be part of the squad for Union.
