This past weekend, the LEC Spring Split regular season came to a close. In the end, we were left with jubilant Rogue players, disappointed MAD Lions and a historic EXCEL.
With a final tally of 14 wins and only 4 losses, Rogue secured first place in the LEC regular season. Following in second to fourth place were Fnatic, Misfits Gaming and G2 Esports.
These four teams are thus in the “Upper Bracket” of the LEC playoffs and thus have a good chance of making it into the final round for the spring title.
EXCEL makes organizational history
The fifth and sixth-placed teams, Vitality and EXCEL, made it into the “Lower Bracket”. For the latter team, a win against SK Gaming on the penultimate matchday also meant the first play-off spot in the history of the organisation.
A dominant victory by Team Vitality against bottom team Astralis also made it clear that MAD Lions would be the losers of this group stage.
Although the organisation around the German support Norman ‘Kaiser’ Kaiser fought until the end and even managed to win three matches in a row at the end of the season, in the end it was only enough for seventh place. With a final result of eight wins and 10 losses, MAD Lions did not qualify for the play-offs.
The schedule continues on 25 March, when Champion Rogue meets Misfits Gaming. One day later, G2 Esports will face Fnatic, while Team Vitality and EXCEL will complete the first play-off round on 27 March.
