Schalke’s run in the Summer Split came to an end in the final against Unicorns of Love. The Unicorns defeated the Knappen and won a Strauss Prime League title for the first time
After FC Schalke 04 bowled BIG and SK Gaming out of the tournament alongside Eintracht Spandau, the Knappen met their match in the final. For the first time offline, the final of the Summer Split of the Strauss Prime League was played in League of Legends.
2000 spectators in the Berlin Arena saw a first game in best-of-five mode that was clearly pro Unicorns of Love (USE). Quickly building up a gold advantage, they defeated the squires after just 25 minutes.
Unicorns on course – Schalke found their way into the game
In the second match, the Unicorns wanted to continue where they left off. Again they got off to the better start, building up an advantage of 6000 gold after just 20 minutes. However, Schalke stayed in the game longer this time, but lost the second match after a trap set by USE in minute 39.
Only in the third game did Schalke seem to have arrived in Berlin. If the start was even this time, they defied the Unicorns. With a small gold advantage, the Schalkers killed the first Baron after 34 minutes – the advantage continued to grow. With the second Baron buff, they smashed the enemy base and tied the game – 1:2.
Bubbly already cold
Now clearly better in the game, the squires were able to win isolated team fights in the fourth match. With a gold advantage of almost 7000, the equaliser seemed only a matter of time. However, the Unicorns of Love bit their way into the match and were loudly cheered on by their fans. The dragon soul on the Unicorns’ side brought the needed reinforcement. The advantage turned in USE’s favour before they defeated the S04 base.
“We did it, really awesome event. And the last game really exciting until the end,” said UoL’s coach Fabian “Sheepy” Mallant: “There was a bubbly already chilled by our psychologist. “
