A heavy loss for Lazio: In the seven competitive games until the World Cup break in mid-November, the Romans will definitely have to do without captain Ciro Immobile.
Immobile was injured in Sunday’s 0-0 Serie A draw with Udinese Calcio and was substituted after just half an hour. Examinations on Wednesday revealed a moderate lesion in the attacker’s left thigh muscle.
It is not yet clear exactly how long the 32-year-old will be out of action. This will be determined by further tests in the coming days. However, Immobile is unlikely to play for Lazio before the World Cup in Qatar, for which European champions Italy have not qualified. “I will do everything to return as soon as possible. Thank you for your messages,” he wrote on Instagram.
With six goals from ten games, Immobile currently leads the Serie A scoring charts along with Dusan Vlahovic (Juventus Turin) and former Bremen man Marko Arnautovic (FC Bologna). The former Dortmund player could be replaced in Lazio’s attacking centre by Felipe Anderson (32) or Pedro (35). The Romans, who are currently in fifth place in the Serie A table, still have seven competitive games in the four weeks until the World Cup break.
