Laura Siegemund is no longer competing in singles in Melbourne. Nevertheless, the Australian Open is far from over for her
Laura Siegemund has reached the last 16 at the Australian Open together with her new doubles partner Barbora Krejcikova. The German-Czech tennis duo won 6:2, 6:4 against the two Chinese players Wang Yafan and Yuan Yue in Melbourne.
Siegemund last played together with the Russian Vera Swonarewa and won the WTA Finals in Cancún, Mexico, in November. However, as Swonarewa wanted to take a step back afterwards, Siegemund was looking for a new doubles partner and found one in Krejcikova. The winner of seven Grand Slam doubles tournaments had previously parted ways with her partner Katerina Siniakova
Krejcikova, who is also still competing in the singles, had to be treated briefly against the two Chinese players. However, the Czech was able to continue playing and held her nerve together with Siegemund in the thrilling second set.
