Lacroix extends contract in Wolfsburg and feels “totally comfortable”

In the summer he wanted to move to Leipzig, but now Maxence Lacroix has extended his contract at VfL Wolfsburg by another year.

When he moved to Wolfsburg from French second-division club FC Sochaux in the summer of 2020, Lacroix had signed a working paper until 2024, his new one – with increased pay – now runs until 2025.

“Maxence has had a great development over the past year. We are therefore pleased that we will continue to pursue our goals together,” VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer was quoted as saying in the club’s statement on Thursday.

Lacroix had been one of the best centre-backs in the Bundesliga in his debut season, attracting the attention of several interested parties. Among others, RB Leipzig had made two offers in the region of 20 million euros to the Wolves – who, however, did not let the 21-year-old Frenchman go.

“I am very happy that we have extended the contract,” said Lacroix, who would have liked to move to Leipzig himself, some two months later. “I feel totally at home in Wolfsburg and still have a lot of plans with VfL. It’s fun to play in this team and I’m looking forward to us developing together and being successful.”

Lacroix is also a key player under new coach Mark van Bommel and has been convincing so far (kicker grade average 3.08). He has played a total of 45 competitive games for the Champions League participants so far.
