Dramatic comebacks are becoming the norm in the derby matches between LA Galaxy and LAFC. Back in March, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was instrumental in turning around a 3-0 score to eventually win 4-3, with the Swedish star scoring the winner in added time. The game will stay fresh in the memory for a long time and is one of the best comebacks in MLS history.

With not quite as many goals but in the same dramatic fashion, Galaxy came back from trailing 2-0 with goals from Alessandrini and Kamara in the final ten minutes last night. Carlos Vela and Lee Nguyen had put the host team ahead, with Nguyen’s well-taken free-kick that left the LAFC goalkeeper to simply stand and watch the ball hit the back of the net.
Zlatan – the best is yet to come
Ibrahimovic looks like he is settling in just fine in LA and he was out to ruin LAFC’s party yet again, as he set up Alessandri to start the comeback. LAFC went into the game four points ahead of their local rivals, so LA Galaxy did not want to let that gap get any bigger. Galaxy’s recent form showed a streak of eight unbeaten games, so there was even more motivation for not letting their rivals defeat them.
Either team could mount a title challenge
With just over half of the games played in this MLS season, there is still plenty of time for both teams to put a good run together and reach the top of the table to overtake current leaders FC Dallas. With players like Zlatan around, you have a great chance in picking up plenty of points before the season ends. Whilst he turned provider last night, he is scoring goals too, with 12 goals so far.
At 1.96m tall, Ibra is a force to be reckoned with and he is only just getting started at LA Galaxy with 12 goals in 16 games. When he fully adapts to the style of play in the MLS we can expect him to be topping the goalscoring charts.
