National player Leon Kratzer has extended his contract with Telekom Baskets Bonn by one year and is celebrating a personal premiere.
Leon Kratzer will continue to play for Telekom Baskets Bonn in the coming season. The club announced on Monday that the centre has extended his contract by one year. The German international, who was traded from the Skyliners in Frankfurt to the Baskets in 2020, will thus enter his third season in Bonn – a personal premiere: In his professional career, he has never played three years in a row for the same club.
“Last season was just something special! Next year I want to go one better with the team,” said the 25-year-old.
The Bonn team only failed to reach the semi-finals of the Bundesliga play-offs against Bayern Munich last week and are now pushing ahead with their personnel planning. Accordingly, those responsible are happy about Kratzer’s commitment. “This provides us with important continuity at the German squad positions. His mix of strong rebounding, ability to guard the basket and his general understanding of basketball fit very well into our team,” Baskets head coach Tuomas Iisalo is quoted as saying in the press release.
Kratzer, who is the son of former national player Marc Suhr, has played seven games in the national jersey so far and has also been called up to the German selection for the upcoming international match period: There he will meet Estonia (30 June) and Poland (3 July) with his national team colleagues in the World Cup qualifiers.
