The women’s competition at the French Open will take place without any German players from the third round onwards. Tamara Korpatsch was the last German tennis player to be eliminated from the singles competition after losing 2:6, 2:6 to Chinese seventh seed Zheng Quinwen
Before that, Angelique Kerber, Tatjana Maria, Jule Niemeier, Laura Siegemund and Eva Lys had already failed at the opening hurdle in the Stade Roland Garros in Paris.
Korpatsch had fought her way into the second round in a three-hour battle against Ashlyn Krueger from the USA. That alone was a success, as she “took two months off and did nothing at all due to persistent back pain and only had one week to prepare”, as the Hamburg native revealed.
