Koepfer in round two in Miami – Korpatsch eliminated

After Laura Siegemund, Dominik Koepfer has also won his opening match in Miami. Olympic champion Zverev will only play later

Tennis pro Dominik Koepfer has reached the second round at the tournament in Miami. The 30-year-old won his opening match at the 8.77 million dollar event against the American Marcos Giron 4:6, 6:1, 6:4.

After 1:48 hours, Koepfer converted his second match point. His next opponent is the Argentinian Sebastian Baez.

Tamara Korpatsch, on the other hand, was eliminated. The 28-year-old from Kaltenkirchen lost her first round match against Viktoriya Tomova from Bulgaria in two sets, 2:6, 4:6. Angelique Kerber had also suffered a setback on her way back to her old strength and deservedly lost 2:6, 3:6 to Sloane Stephens from the USA.

Laura Siegemund is therefore the only German player in round two of the women’s competition. The 36-year-old had already won a three-set victory against Aleksandra Krunic from Serbia on Tuesday. Siegemund, who had earned a place in the main draw by qualifying, will play the ninth seeded Latvian Jelena Ostapenko in the next round today.

In addition to Koepfer, Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, Jan-Lennard Struff, Daniel Altmaier and Yannick Hanfmann are also competing in the men’s tournament. Zverev and Struff each have a bye in the first round. Altmaier and Hanfmann play today
