We show Ferrari racing cars that were not just red
It is probably the most striking color in motorsport: “rosso corsa”, the red with which Ferrari competes in Formula 1. However, Ferrari racing cars have not always been painted (or wrapped) in the same color over the past seven decades. And in some cases, the traditional brand from Maranello has even completely abandoned its corporate colors.
The 1964 Formula 1 season clearly stands out here: John Surtees won the world championship title for Ferrari that year, but he was the only Ferrari world champion not to seal his title in a red car.
However, our journey through Ferrari’s Formula 1 history also includes completely different special designs, after Ferrari celebrated several company anniversaries in the recent past and gave its Formula 1 racing cars a different look at certain points.
The design for the 2023 Italian Grand Prix in Monza, for example, was a special kind of “crossover”: Ferrari had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans on its comeback a few weeks earlier and had the Formula 1 cars (partially) compete in the color scheme of the Le Mans-winning car
And so yellow has repeatedly found its way onto the racing cars from Maranello in Ferrari’s history. The brand also has a close connection to this color, as can be seen from the Ferrari logo with its yellow background: Yellow is the heraldic color of Modena, the hometown of Enzo Ferrari. And indeed: there has already been an all-yellow Ferrari in Formula 1!
For the Ferrari cars in Formula 1 have sometimes taken to the track with lighter, sometimes with darker shades of red. Sometimes the wings were black, sometimes white. And Ferrari fans still have no positive memories of some color designs today …
