‘Exceptional boxer Gennadiy Golovkin is one world title richer – and nothing seems to stand in the way of a third mega-fight against superstar Canelo Alvarez.
In the Saitama Super Arena in Japan, the Kazakh defeated local hero Ryota Murata in a thrilling fight by technical knockout in the ninth round. Middleweight Golovkin thus took the world championship belt of the WBA from Murata, champion of the IBF and the IBO he already was.
Golovkin vs. Alvarez 3 probably in September
Golovkin is working towards completing his planned trilogy with Alvarez, the two rivals have already agreed on a September 17 fight – it is to be for the world super-middleweight titles, Alvarez holds world titles of all major federations there.
The first duel between the two ended in a controversial draw in 2017, and a year later Alvarez won on points, inflicting “GGG” with his only defeat to date.
