Jürgen Klopp will not be able to call on centre-forward Diogo Jota against Norwich this weekend. However, further tests have to be carried out before an assessment of his downtime can be made.
The Portuguese was substituted at half-time in Wednesday’s Champions League match at Inter Milan (2-0), with Roberto Firminio coming on in his place. His coach Klopp subsequently announced at Friday’s press conference ahead of the home game against Norwich City that Diogo Jota would not be available for the game, but the extent of his injury was not yet known.
“We need another assessment. It’s something with some ligaments, in and around the ankle, but not ‘the’ ligament, but some others,” Klopp said. So anything is still possible, he added: “That it will be very quick or the other way around. So we have to wait and see.”
Should the 25-year-old be out for longer, the winter signing of winger Luis Diaz from Porto would probably pay off directly. He is already a hot candidate for the starting eleven for the Norwich game.
