Liverpool FC will have to do without Jürgen Klopp for Sunday’s top game at Chelsea. The Reds coach is suspected to have a Corona infection.
Klopp is suffering from “mild symptoms” according to the club and is currently in isolation. Instead of the 54-year-old master coach, Klopp’s assistant Pepijn Lijnders will take his place on the Liverpool bench for Sunday’s matchday 21 top-of-the-table clash at Chelsea FC.
It was only on Friday that Klopp announced that three Reds professionals had contracted the corona virus – though Klopp did not name names.
Liverpool are in third place ahead of the Stamford Bridge clash, having collected just one point less than Chelsea on 40 points. However, the Champions League winners have already played one more game.
Klopp has coached Liverpool FC since October 2015 and led the traditional club back to its former strength. In 2019, he led the Reds to Champions League triumph, and a year later Liverpool celebrated their first championship in 30 years. Klopp has warned of the dangers of the Corona pandemic since it began, has spoken out publicly in favour of vaccination on several occasions and most recently has also been critical of the measures taken by the English Premier League.
