Liverpool lost Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona last month and collected about 160 million euros. Many fans see the departure of the Brazilian as a bloodletting, as Coutinho was the game maker that lifted Liverpool to a higher level. However, Jürgen Klopp disagrees with the criticism that Liverpool has not succeeded in obtaining an adequate replacement.
“Unfortunately, this crazy business is only an easy business from the outside. You miss a player in one week and then you think: okay, we need another player. Yes, we could have done things differently. But what we really had to do was the right thing. And you never know what is the right choice at the moment,”said the manager of Liverpool, quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
“One hundred percent can only sit right with insane amounts of money like other clubs, and that doesn’t save anything. I’m not even sure if that will work (spending a lot of money on a player, ed.). And in the summer, everything looks completely different. People naturally say:’ Get that or that player,’ because a player is injured and you need someone else.
“But if the other person then becomes fit again, make sure you make them both weaker and perhaps also the third player in that position. It never succeeds. In such situations, you should always stay calm. Of course, that is much more difficult if you have lost two games, but you have to remain calm and keep thinking quietly,”concludes Klopp.
