Aged just 41, the legend of MMA Norifumi ‘Kid’ Yamamoto tragically lost his fight with cancer this week. Kid Yamamoto was a Japanese fighter that enjoyed great success in the mid-2000s. He had announced that he was battling with cancer on his Instagram account to his fans on August 21.

Despite being just five foot three, he made a real name for himself and was a well-known star in his native Japan. In 2006 he recorded the fastest ever knockout in MMA history when he delivered a well-executed flying knee just four seconds into his bout. He went on to build an impressive fight record of 17-1 before he first announced his retirement in 2017.
Dana White pays tribute to Kid Yamamoto
Norifumi Yamamoto went on to return to MMA in 2009 but he was far from the fighter that had achieved so much earlier on in his career. Dana White echoed the huge sadness that is felt across the MMA world following the news of his death: “Damn. An absolute legend and trailblazer. Terribly sad. Rest easy, Kid Yamamoto.”
