Angelique Kerber wants to fine-tune her comeback season for the Olympic Games in Paris at her home tournament in Hamburg. The Kiel-born player will serve for the first time at the WTA tournament in the Hanseatic city (July 20 to 26), as the organizers announced on Monday. The Olympic tennis tournament starts just one day after the final in Hamburg’s Stadtpark, with both events being played on clay.
“For me as a North German, it feels a bit like coming home,” said the former Wimbledon champion, who won Olympic silver in Rio in 2016: “The city has a great tennis tradition with many fans – this will be a premiere for me that is also associated with a sense of home.”
Following the birth of her daughter Liana in February, Kerber will return to the tennis tour next season. The 35-year-old will play for the German team for the first time at the United Cup in Australia at the end of December alongside Alexander Zverev
