Miami – Angelique Kerber has lost her opening match at the Tennis Masters in Miami against Naomi Osaka and is the last German to be eliminated from the tournament.
In the duel between the two former world number one’s, Japan’s Osaka won 6:2, 6:3. Kerber was seeded 13th and had a walk-through in the first round. Laura Siegemund and Nastasja Schunk had already been eliminated.
The hard-court tournament in Florida, which is endowed with around 8.6 million US dollars, is in the highest category on the WTA Tour. Kerber’s best result there was the semi-finals in 2016.
