Angelique Kerber will face Elise Mertens in the third round of the grass court classic at Wimbledon on Friday. The Belgian, seeded 24th, defeated Panna Udvardy of Hungary 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.
The match had been abandoned the previous day after two sets due to darkness. Kerber’s third-round match will be the second match on Court 1. The first match in the second largest stadium will start at 2.00 pm on 1 July.
Directly after Kerber, Oscar Otte will play the last match of the day against the young Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz on the same court. Of the 13 German tennis professionals who have started, Jule Niemeier will play Ukrainian Lessia Zurenko and Tatjana Maria will play Greek number five Maria Sakkari in the third round.
