World number one Iga Swiatek has won the clay court tennis tournament in Rome. The Polish player beat Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus 6:2, 6:3 in the women’s final.
Swiatek had already won the title against Sabalenka at the beginning of May in Madrid in a dramatic final lasting 3:14 hours. Swiatek had previously eliminated Angelique Kerber in the last major test of form for the French Open in Paris, which begins on May 26.
In the men’s competition of the clay court tournament, Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev will reach the final on Sunday. After his three-set victory on Friday against Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo, the Hamburg native will face Tabilo’s compatriot Nicolas Jarry in the final
