Kecmanovic: Give everything for Djokovic in Melbourne

Melbourne (dpa) – Serbia’s fellow tennis players also want to play for the top star after Novak Djokovic’s forced departure from Australia at the Australian Open.

“We said we will give everything we have to try to, let’s say, in a way avenge him and make him proud,” Miomir Kecmanovic (22) said in Melbourne. He also dedicated his 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 win over Italian lucky loser Salvatore Caruso to the world number one.

Kecmanovic was supposed to meet Djokovic. The day before, Australia’s Federal Court rejected Djokovic’s appeal against the cancellation of his visa and last year’s winner had to leave Australia.

“In my opinion, it was not handled well and things could have gone smoother and better for everybody. It’s definitely terrible that they had to kick him out like that,” said world No. 77 Kecmanovic.
