Kauczinski new coach at SV Wehen Wiesbaden

The SV Wehen Wiesbaden presented its new coach early on Monday afternoon, two weeks after Rüdiger Rehm (42) took leave of absence. The new man at the current seventh-placed team in the 3rd division is Markus Kauczinski.

The 51-year-old football coach signed a contract with the former second-division club until 2023 and will lead Wiesbaden’s training for the first time on Tuesday.

In Kauczinski, the club from the Hessian state capital has signed a coach who has first and second division experience. Born in Gelsenkirchen, he coached Karlsruher SC, FC St. Pauli and Dynamo Dresden (he also coached the club in the 3rd division) in the 2nd division. In addition, Kauczinski had a four-month engagement at the then Bundesliga club FC Ingolstadt (July to November 2016)

“Markus Kauczinski is a very confident coach who brings a lot of experience from the 3. Liga and 2. Bundesliga. We have had very good talks this week and are convinced that he will develop and stabilise the team to play at the top of the league,” Wehen Wiesbaden’s managing director Nico Schäfer (53) was quoted as saying in an official statement from the club.

Fondest memories of the Wiesbaden Arena

The new coach praises the club’s officials for “a clear vision regarding the long-term development of a team. After the talks, it was quickly clear to me that I wanted to be a part of that development.”

Kauczinski, meanwhile, has the best memories of his new workplace. On 18 May 2013, the 38th matchday of the 2012/13 Drittliga season, as coach of Karlsruher SC, he celebrated a 4-2 victory with his team at the Wiesbaden Arena and with it KSC’s promotion to the 2. Liga.

Kauczinski’s assistants, meanwhile, are the former SV Wehen Wiesbaden co-coaches: Mike Krannich (49) and Nils Döring (41), as well as goalkeeping coach Marjan Petkovic (42).

After the first training session on Tuesday, the new Wiesbaden coach’s first competitive match is already scheduled for Wednesday. In the round of sixteen of the Hessen Cup, the third-division club will play against fifth-division team Türkgücü Friedberg. Kauczinski’s first league game as coach of the SVWW will be on 20 November at 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
