Kane’s little tip: “… as if they were already further ahead”

After the 2-1 defeat to Inter, Harry Kane was only partially self-critical – but believes in a comeback in Milan.

Great players are great players because they decide the so-called big games. Harry Kane scored in the Champions League quarter-finals against Arsenal in the previous season, in the semi-finals against Real Madrid, and this season in the last 16 against Bayer Leverkusen on several occasions. However, in football, people are usually less interested in what has been and more in what is and what is yet to come.

At least some of it has to come from FC Bayern’s point of view: “We know what we have to do now,” said Kane after the 2-1 defeat to Inter on Tuesday evening. “We have to go there and win the game. That’s what we intend to do.”

The Bundesliga’s top scorer, who regularly beats the advertising drum for himself in terms of the Ballon d’Or, got off to a good start, orchestrating Munich’s offense as he so often does, only to gradually fade. Kane was brought in to make a difference in just such “tough” (Kane) games. Of course, the same applies to Leroy Sané, who has been in rising form in the league recently.

Kane won’t let that get him down. “I’m going into the game against Dortmund on Saturday with the same confidence and hope to score again.” The task will undoubtedly be a very important one, but the same applies, perhaps even more so, to the reunion with Inter a few days later.

“We can take a lot of positives with us,” says Kane. “It might look similar in Milan, we don’t expect them to change much. They have some great individual players we have to be wary of. But overall, I think this game today can give us a lot of confidence.”

In any case, Bayern’s record signing will not lose faith. ”We must always believe that we can turn things around. I think there was enough to see in today’s game, enough evidence that we are a dangerous team against any opponent.”

He himself would have to become a bit more dangerous again. And despite his extremely disappointing performance, Kane did not miss a slight dig at Milan: “In the end, they celebrated as if they had already progressed… But it’s still all to play for.”
