Kaiserslautern: With a mix to the BVB

The 1. FC Kaiserslautern’s lazarette is slowly thinning out again. Against BVB, FCK can hope for one or the other returnee.

The form curve at 1. FC Kaiserslautern continues to show an upward trend. And that despite the fact that FCK has been missing a few key players recently. In the recent 1:0 win over Wiesbaden, six potential regulars – goalkeeper Matheo Raab, Kevin Kraus, Philipp Hercher, Jean Zimmer, Muhammed Kiprit and René Klingenburg – were not available.

The personnel situation is easing ahead of the match against Borussia Dortmund’s second team, albeit only slightly. Klingenburg was the first to return to training after tearing his muscle fibre during the week, followed by Hercher and Kiprit. Zimmer, on the other hand, is still in doubt.

“It will come down to a mix. But it’s also about the alignment, whether we play offensively or a bit more defensively,” FCK coach Marco Antwerpen gave an insight into his personnel considerations at the press conference.

With six wins from the last ten third league games, the Red Devils travel to Dortmund with plenty of self-confidence. The FCK will be supported by 1600 fans.

Support from the Bundesliga?

With BVB II, Antwerp expects a team with a strong game. “We know that the U-23 teams have young, talented players in their ranks. It is the same with Freiburg II.” In addition, Antwerpen says it is never possible to assess to what extent the second team will receive support from the Bundesliga team. On the last matchday in Halle, Dan-Axel Zagadou was still in the starting eleven for BVB, but the Frenchman also came into play on Wednesday in Dortmund’s 1-3 defeat at Sporting Lisbon.

The playful disposition of the Black and Yellows, meanwhile, should suit the FCK. They already managed a clear 3:0 against Freiburg II.
