Oliver Kahn has apparently failed with a first offer made to take over France’s traditional club Girondins Bordeaux.
It is not new that Oliver Kahn is toying with the takeover of Girondins Bordeaux. However, as RMC Sport reported on Friday, an initial offer from Kahn and his colleagues was rejected by club president Gerard Lopez.
Last week, it became clear how serious Kahn is about this when he visited Bordeaux and met with Mayor Pierre Hurmic and Christine Bost, President of the Metropolitan Region. The interest in the traditional French club is very real.
However, Lopez is said to have rejected an initial takeover bid for various reasons. On the one hand, it was too low, and on the other hand, “any proof of funds” was missing, according to RMC Sport.
Kahn was not alone in Bordeaux; Jacques-Henri Eyraud visited local celebrities at his side. The former president of Olympique Marseille is considered to be a fellow campaigner of Kahn’s in the Bordeaux project.
Writing to potential investors
Girondins sent an unequivocal message to potential investors this week in a press release. The rebuilding of the club is based on “strong values” such as “proximity to fans, sporting integrity and total commitment of the players”.
“All serious talks about the entry of new investors will be conducted exclusively in a strict framework involving an investment bank, the board of directors, legal representatives and legal advisors,” Bordeaux writes. ”The most important criteria for such a partnership will be the origin and proven availability of funds, as well as respect for the project and the efforts already made.”
Club boss Lopez Kahn does not want to leave the field that easily. Since last summer, Girondins has been in a judicial reorganization process to pay off its debts. The sum – more than 110 million euros – is to be renegotiated.
The current fourth division team, currently in second place in the Championnat National 2 – Groupe B, is fighting to be promoted to the third division.
