Koepka’s two victories came at the U.S. Open and PGA Championship, two major events. Therefore, even though he’s the only one of the five contenders not to have won three times this season, he’s seen as the favorite, at least in Woods’ and Thomas’ eyes.
Tour Championship will determine the winner
All five players have a shot at claiming the illustrious award heading into the Tour Championship scheduled to start on September 20 at the East Lake golf course in Atlanta, Georgia. It is the last of four FedEx playoff tournaments. Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, and Bryson DeChambeau all would automatically claim the FedEx Cup and its $10 million bonus (€8.6 million) by winning the Tour Championship.
However, players will vote for the winner of the PGA Tour Player of the Year award and based on what we heard from Woods and Thomas, it appears the honor will go to Brooks Koepka.
