Sebastian Korda wins the final in Washington. The 24-year-old achieves a historic victory in the US capital
32 years after his father Petr, tennis player Sebastian Korda has also won the tournament in Washington. It is the first time in the history of the ATP Tour that father and son have won the same title. Korda defeated the Italian Flavio Cobolli 4:6, 6:2, 6:0 in the final at the DC Open.
“Of course, one of my biggest goals was to come here one day and hopefully win the tournament,” says the 24-year-old. It was probably the best moment of his career so far. His father Petr Korda won the tournament in the US capital in 1992.
Sebastian Korda comes from a sporty family. His father Petr Korda was one of the best tennis players in the world in the 1990s. In 1998, the Czech-born player triumphed at the Australian Open. His mother Regina played for Olympic medals at the 1988 Games in Seoul. His sisters Jessica and Nelly are also professional sportswomen and were drawn to the golf course. The younger of the two, Nelly, won Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2021 and is currently ranked number one in the world.
