In the Junior classification of the ADAC GT Masters, only the sixth and seventh-placed drivers can still catch championship leader Ben Green at the finale at Hockenheim
Curious case in the Junior classification of the 2022 ADAC GT Masters: Before the finale at the Hockenheimring, the second, third, fourth and fifth-placed drivers no longer have a chance of winning the title, but the sixth and seventh-placed drivers do. Realistically, however, Ben Green will clinch the title relatively quickly.
The reason for this is that in the ADAC GT Masters the number of possible points is based on the FIA driver rating of the respective driver and his team-mates. Here, championship leader Ben Green (215.5 points) can draw from the full range. He usually drives together with Niklas Krütten, who, like Green, has a silver rating. As a result, both receive 1.5 times the points.
For example, Ben Green and Niklas Krütten scored the full 25 points in their double-header at the Red Bull Ring. However, as their teammate has a silver rating in each case, these points are taken times 1.5, so they scored 37.5 points twice.
Green leads the standings alone, as Krütten did not race at Sachsenring. The young German can therefore no longer become champion. Unless Schubert changes the pairings, which is not currently planned.
This leaves only drivers who are already far behind as the chasers: Kim-Luis Schramm (163 points), Joel Sturm (159) and Fabian Schiller (157) would have to change teammates to still have a chance of winning the championship. Since both have been given a full pro to play alongside, they can no longer catch Green with a simple score.
Curiously enough, the riders behind them still have a mathematical chance of winning the junior title, even though they currently have fewer points than Schramm, Schiller and Sturm.
Konsta Lappalainen and Mick Wishofer (154 each) can still theoretically take the title, as can Jan Marschalkowski (146.5), since they have a silver-rated rider as a teammate. However, they would have to win twice in the juniors and Green is unlikely to score.
All drivers younger than 25 take part in the junior classification. One exception is Luca Engstler, who is no longer considered a junior because of his experience in the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR). Drivers who have already won the Junior classification are also automatically eliminated from it for the next year.
As a further classification, the Trophy will be offered to drivers with an FIA Bronze rating (or Silver and older than 35). The story is quickly told, however, because Florian Spengler is the only driver in this classification in the 2022 ADAC GT Masters.
The ADAC GT Masters, together with Pirelli, is tendering 22 sets of tyres each for the following season in return for winning the ratings.
