Tennis player Jule Niemeier wants to fight her way back to her former form. She succeeds in San Diego
Qualifier Jule Niemeier has reached the round of 16 at the WTA tennis tournament in San Diego. The 24-year-old from Dortmund won surprisingly clearly in the first main draw round against the Frenchwoman Warvara Gratschewa 6:3, 6:0.
The former Wimbledon quarter-finalist, who has had many disappointments behind her, had to fight her way through qualifying to reach the main draw. Niemeier, ranked 126th in the world, will now face the number one seed Jessica Pegula from the USA in the round of 16. Tatjana Maria is the other German tennis player taking part in the WTA 500 tournament
