German judo hopefuls Anna-Maria Wagner and Alina Böhm are getting into shape ahead of the season’s highlights. At the Grand Slam in Dushanbe/Tajikistan, both fought their way to the final in the 78 kg weight class – with the better end for Wagner (Ravensburg). The world champion and 2021 Olympic bronze medalist won with the third shido for two-time European champion Böhm (Heubach).
“The win is simply another step in the right direction,” said Wagner (27), who won European silver ahead of Böhm (25) in mid-April: “I’m fit and that’s how I’m going to the World Championships.” This will take place from May 19 in Abu Dhabi/United Arab Emirates. The big goal for the season is the Olympic Games in Paris (from July 26).
Losseni Kone (Alstertal-Langenhorn) also put in a strong performance in Dushanbe, winning bronze in the heavyweight division. The 23-year-old was only beaten by French world champion Teddy Riner and took bronze. Erik Abramov (Potsdam) finished in seventh place
