IntactGP rider Lukas Tulovic secures early Moto2 European Championship title, recommending himself for return to Moto2 World Championship
Lukas Tulovic secured the Moto2 European Championship title early at Aragon last weekend. Tulovic won both races after securing a commanding pole in qualifying. After the first victory, the title was no longer in Tulovic’s grasp. The Moto2 European Championship title is the biggest milestone in Tulovic’s career to date.
“I am overjoyed. It was a perfect weekend!”, commented the 22-year-old from Eberbach. “Apart from the warm-up, we were in first place in all sessions. To land a one-two after pole position and to win the championship early on top of that – what more could you want?”
“Nevertheless, I was very nervous before the first race, which was repeated in the final laps. There were many things going through my head before the finish and some mistakes happened. It was really not easy to keep the focus,” admits Tulovic.
“To be honest, I couldn’t hold back a few tears in the Parc Ferme and at the podium ceremony. Those were really emotional and beautiful moments. But with the victory and the championship in hand, the day was not over yet,” the IntactGP rider reports.
“It was about finding the focus again for the second race. But of course that was much easier than before. After we adapted the bike to the warmer conditions and I got away well from the start, I was able to ride my pace straight away and call up exactly what was possible. The start-finish victory was the icing on the cake of this beautiful weekend,” Tulovic said happily.
In the coming season, Tulovic is expected to take the place of Marcel Schrötter in the Moto2 World Championship, who is moving to the Supersport World Championship (more information). Tulovic already completed a full season in the Moto2 World Championship in 2019, collecting only three World Championship points at the time with the not particularly competitive KTM and finishing 29th overall.
