When the dust after Cristiano Ronaldo’s summer transfer saga settled down, one loser remained all alone in the desert – Manchester United.

Why? Because whenever you have a chance to sign one of the best footballers in history and you miss out, you automatically lose. Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward opted to chase Gareth Bale instead, so even if Ronaldo initially preferred to come back to Old Trafford, the lack of enthusiasm on the other side sent him in an opposite direction, which we all know by now is Juventus FC.
It later turned out Woodward didn’t want to spend money at all, with Fred being the only notable signing ahead of the new season. An unsatisfied Jose Mourinho threw all his negativity onto his players and the team got off to a poor start. Things have improved since, but an October 23rd date with Cristiano Ronaldo is certainly not one any Manchester United fan is looking forward to.
According to Mourinho, Ronaldo, who last played at Old Trafford in 2013 when the Portuguese still coached Real Madrid, will enjoy the trip back to his old stomping ground.
“My feeling when we played with Real Madrid here was that he was happy to come back and was happy to play at Old Trafford, but he was also happy to score and to win.”
“But Old Trafford likes him and Old Trafford will always react in a positive way to him, which is a great thing.”

Cristiano Ronaldo focused on Juve
On his behalf, Cristiano Ronaldo is focused on doing well for his new club.

Other than Juventus and Manchester United, Group H includes Valencia and Swiss champions Young Boys. Juve’s first game will be in Spain against Valencia on Wednesday. Juventus are favorites to top the group and re-joined the circle of favorites to win the entire competition with Ronaldo’s arrival.
