Ducati has not yet decided which rider will succeed Jack Miller in the 2023 MotoGP season: Jorge Martin wants factory team seat
It remains to be seen what Ducati will decide with regard to the second spot for the 2023 MotoGP season. Jack Miller is expected to move to KTM. Enea Bastianini, who has already won three races this season, is considered the favourite for the place in the factory team. But Jorge Martin also still has hopes.
Before the start of the season, Martin was the big favourite to make the factory team. The rookie had made a strong showing in the 2021 MotoGP season. But with the 2022 Ducati, Martin struggled to build on the successes of 2021. “The bike is very different from last year when I had a lot of confidence. We are trying to improve,” he notes.
“I can’t say much about my future. I want to be competitive. Last year I already demonstrated that. Now the situation has changed. It was difficult to control it. From the outside it looks easy to decide who deserves the place. But internally it is not like that. That’s why Ducati has some difficulties to make a decision,” Martin notes.
Should Ducati decide in favour of Bastianini, then Martin is likely to remain with Pramac. There are not many appealing alternatives left. “It is an option. It’s something I’m thinking about. But I want to ride a factory bike in a factory team,” the Spaniard makes clear, putting pressure on Ducati.
Enea Bastianini is currently third in the championship and the best Ducati rider. Jorge Martin moved up to twelfth position in the championship thanks to 20 points for second place in Barcelona.
