Family comes first, or at least it did in John Terry’s case as the 37-year-old rejected a €3.4 million contract from Spartak Moscow.

John Terry rejects Spartak Moscow
The former Chelsea captain John Terry underwent a medical in Moscow ahead of a proposed move to Spartak Moscow. A formal confirmation was expected but it never came. Now we know why as the English footballer changed his mind and refused Spartak’s lucrative one-year €3.4 million offer.
“After considerable thought, I have decided to decline a contract offer from Spartak Moscow,”
He cited his family as the reason for his decision.
“…after assessing this move with my family, we’ve decided this is not the right move for ourselves at this time.”
They obviously didn’t feel comfortable about moving to Russia which is hardly surprising since very few players from England have ever made the move.

Terry stayed without a club after leaving Aston Villa following the conclusion of last season, a season in which The Claret and Blue reached the Championship promotion playoff final, only to lose 1-0 to Fulham. In his statement, he was grateful for the opportunity given to him by the Russian club.
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank Spartak and wish them and their supporters well for the rest of the season.
“They are an ambitious club and I have been very impressed with their professionalism.
“Good luck Spartak.”
Terry began his career in West Ham’s youth system before moving to Stamford Bridge at the age of 14. He went on to play more than 700 games with the Blues where he won five Premier League titles and the club’s first ever Champions League trophy. All of this whilst becoming a club legend in the process.
Samuel Gigot replacement
Spartak Moscow will now have to shift their focus on a different player to replace Samuel Gigot. The French starting center-back is out for the season after rupturing ligaments in his knee. The team is currently ranked second in Russia’s Premier League, with four wins and two draws from six matches, two points behind leaders Zenit St. Petersburg.
