Arsene Wenger protected Jack Wilshere during all those injury-plagued years. Unai Emery wasn’t attached, so he had no doubts when he let Wilshere go. His Arsenal contract wasn’t renewed. After some thinking (considered joining Fenerbahce), he opted to stay in London and sign for West Ham United on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old has played 180 minutes for Manuel Pellegrini’s Hammers and is looking forward to adding another 90 against his former teammates.

“It’ll be a strange one for me as I was never able to go there and play when I went out on loan as you can’t play against your parent club, but it’s one I’m looking forward to.”

“I obviously know them really well. They’ve got a new manager, but I know the players, so hopefully, it’ll be a good time to play them.”

It goes without saying Wilshere will have an extra incentive when he steps on the pitch on Saturday.

“It’s down to me to prove a point to Arsenal that they were wrong to get rid of me.”

West Ham is off to a poor start, losing both Premier League fixtures they’ve played at Liverpool (4-0) and versus Bournemouth (1-2). Pellegrini is still figuring out his best lineup and will need to speed the process up if he wants to keep coaching a club with one of the most impatient fan bases out there.

Arsenal is winless as well, but that has more to do with their opponents than anything else. First, The Gunners had to face Manchester City, losing at home 2-0. They followed up that loss with another one at city rival Chelsea last weekend (3-2) in a game Emery’s men could’ve easily won had Aubameyang been more accurate.

Arsenal vs West Ham Bet365 Odds

West Ham has won a single one of their last 22 meetings with Arsenal. The Gunners have won 17 of those fixtures, including the last three at home. Considering how desperate Unai Emery will be to record his first Premier League win, betting on anything other than an Arsenal victory is a bad idea.

Arsenal 1.33 (1/3)

Draw 5 (4/1)

West Ham 9 (8/1)
