Ivan Lendl to coach Andy Murray again

Berlin – Former world number one Andy Murray is bringing back Ivan Lendl as his coach.

Four and a half years after the pair split, Lendl and the 34-year-old tennis player are set to work together again, Murray’s manager has announced. According to the statement, Lendl and Murray are planning a training block of several weeks in the United States after the tournament in Miami, which ends in early April.

Murray, who is currently ranked 84th in the world after a long injury break, recorded his greatest successes under Lendl. The Czech-born and now US-American led the Briton to successes such as Olympic gold in 2012 and 2016 or victories at the US Open and Wimbledon. Lendl was also the coach of the top German player Alexander Zverev for a while, but their collaboration ended after less than a year.

As a player, Lendl was one of Boris Becker’s great rivals in the 1980s and 1990s. He spent 270 weeks at the top of the world rankings and won eight Grand Slam titles.
