“It’s the bone”: Haaland still out for weeks

The comeback of Erling Haaland is delayed. The Norwegian Manchester City goalkeeper is still suffering from a foot injury

Manchester City will probably have to do without Haaland until the end of January. This was predicted by coach Pep Guardiola ahead of Saturday evening’s Premier League match at Newcastle United. The 23-year-old goalscorer from Norway has already been out for a month due to an injury to his foot.

“It’s the bone. It needs time,” said Guardiola. “Hopefully he’ll be ready at the end of the month,” said the Catalan, who admitted that the healing time is taking a little longer than the Skyblues “expected at the beginning”.

Training camp in Abu Dhabi

Good news for City: after the clash with the Magpies, the team will have a two-week break from matches and are therefore in Abu Dhabi for training purposes. Haaland could return there after the doctors have now ordered him to take a one-week break.

Haaland’s services and qualities will be sorely missed. Guardiola emphasized: “Hopefully he can come back and play the last four or five months without any problems.”

Haaland has already scored 19 goals in 22 games so far this season. He leads the scoring charts in the Premier League with 14 league goals. In the previous season, the Norwegian was the top scorer in England’s soccer league with 36 goals and a wide margin

Akanji is also out

According to Guardiola, Manuel Akanji, like Haaland previously under contract with Borussia Dortmund, will also miss a few weeks. The Swiss defender was forced off injured early in the FA Cup win over Huddersfield a week ago and is also expected to be out until the end of January. Guardiola did not specify the nature of the injury
