Nick Kyrgios was long considered one of the most talented players in tennis. But injuries and his own mistakes caused problems for the Australian.
Nick Kyrgios hinted at the end of his career on Tuesday. The tennis star, who is currently struggling with injuries, posted on Instagram: “Tennis… Damn… It’s been a wild ride!” He added: “It all started with you. Forever grateful. I love all my fans. There are only a few chapters left…”
Kyrgios’ fans immediately wondered whether this was the end of his career. “Please give us one more chapter in Rome,” one commented. “Don’t break my heart,” wrote another. In addition, some supporters hoped that Kyrgios would continue his career until the Australian Open, his “home Grand Slam,” and that the hint would not come true.
Serious injuries to knee and wrist
Kyrgios was long considered an extremely talented player, even making it to the Australian Open doubles title in 2022. But his own misconduct repeatedly held the now 29-year-old back. He repeatedly picked fights with opponents or insulted them, sometimes getting suspended for weeks at a time. His biggest drawback, however, was injuries, so he never reached higher than 13th place in the world rankings.
He had to cancel almost all tournaments in 2023 due to knee and wrist pain, only playing in the ATP event in Stuttgart in June, but was then forced to take a break again and also canceled the Australian Open in 2024.

As part of this year’s US Open, he made his comeback at the US Open Mixed Madness 2024 charity event. The Australian tennis player competed in the mixed doubles with Naomi Osaka of Japan at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. They were beaten by Amanda Anisimova and Taylor Fritz.
