Right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni claimed the South Tyrolean’s five-set victory in the final against Daniil Medvedev from Russia (3:6, 3:6, 6:4, 6:4, 6:3) on Sunday for the whole nation. Meloni wrote on the Instagram platform: “Italy has won the Australian Slam for the first time. A memorable achievement worthy of a true champion. “
Sinner makes history
The jubilation was greatest in Sinner’s homeland, the predominantly German-speaking province of South Tyrol.
