Paris – Italian Martina Trevisan has become the first tennis player to reach the quarter-finals of the French Open. The 28-year-old won 7-6 (12-10), 7-5 in Paris against Alexandra Sasnovich from Belarus. Sasnovich had knocked out Angelique Kerber in the previous round.
Trevisan underlined her current good form with the victory. Before the French Open, the Italian had won the WTA tournament in Rabat.
Trevisan will now face Canadian Leylah Fernandez in the quarter-finals. Last year’s US Open finalist won 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 against American Amanda Anisimova, putting the 19-year-old in the quarter-finals of one of the four Grand Slam tournaments for the second time in her career.
